The First Poke is always the hardest

So about a month ago Steph asked me if I wanted to do something with her.  I said sure and we signed up for a  phlebotomy class.  Who wouldn't want to learn how to inflict pain and be the most feared person and get paid to do it? We have attended 2 classes and I have told the medical assistants at work that I am doing this.  Shantelle who is a M.A. asked me today if I wanted to practice poking her today (mind that I haven't even picked up a needle in class) I was nervous so Steph decided to be brave and got her good arm.  I was brave after and went after her other arm and the vein wasn't so obvious and I missed. Steph was standing around watching, and after I told her to sit down because I was going to draw blood today.  Steph was brave and sat down.  I wiped the area a few times with alcohol and grabbed my needle (oh the power you feel, and the shakiness that comes from that small tool) and stuck her.  I did it, I drew blood and now am going practice many times so that when it's our "First Time" in class everyone will think I'm a pro.  What an awesome strategic plan.  I plan to use this as a tool as a part time job and if I can get the hook ups at work maybe use it there as well..

So many things to do...What I actually do

Tonight was a good night, I made butternut squash lasagna, caesar salad, and garlic bread. They all tasted amazing.  Played games with my old friend and her husband.  I was going to go to another activity after but I thought I should probably work on my talk that I have to give Sunday.  I went to my room and remembered that FRIENDS was on.  So I thought I'd watch an episode and then work on it, but they are always so good that I have to watch another, and now I wonder if I worked on my talk if it would even make sense to anyone.  I need help, maybe some intervention please.

Mysterious Phone Numbers

Sunday September 23rd came around and I was sick, so I stayed home from all meetings.  I hadn't talked to many people that day and so I was a little lonesome and phone ready..  I had been told that a certain guy that comes into work was going to call and ask me out, so I had my phone at the ready because I didn't want to miss this phone call.  So I'm sitting reading a book when my phone rings and it's a number I don't recognize so I thought "This is the call, now don't be nervous." I answer in a calm collected tone while inside I'm nervous and doing flips.

Me: Hello

Caller: Is this Rachel?

Me: Yes

Caller: Yes this is Brother Web from the ward and I was wondering if you would give a talk next Sunday?

Me: (A little hesitant to agree to another talk and A lot disappointed that it wasn't The Guy):  Sure, What's the topic.

Needless to say  it wasn't the guy I had been waiting for the call on.  This is why I hesitate to answer un-identified numbers. I hate preparing talks and I don't like giving talks.  My thoughts go all over the place and then when I give the talk I sit and worry that it won't make sense to anyone because my brain is a special brand.  Sometimes I wish I were young again and could ask my dad to write the talk.  He wrote awesome talks.

I'm still waiting on that call from the guy and will inform you of when it happens.

Little bit about me...

Taking the advice of my sister-in-law with the beautiful red hair, I decided to work on my blog.  I'm not sure how long I will be able to keep it going as I am not the journaling type but let's give it a shot.  I work at UVU and have been for 8 years which seems weird to say because it doesn't feel like that a lot of the time.  I also tutor children which has been a lot of fun. I enjoy the time spent with family and friends and enjoy the stories that can come from this time.  You will find the said stories on here at times but there will be name changes of course.  I have really enjoyed watching FRIENDS on Nick at Nite before going to bed.  That is one show that if watched long enough you could find yourself relating to one of the characters and may even start talking like them.  I also find that it's a show where you can draw on it in real life.  Hope you enjoyed the first post and may there be many more.
